On Possible Rift between Erdogan and Gul on press freedom

The article by Scott Griffen on the International Press Institute Blog (published on February 6) discusses Turkey's Fractured Front on Press Freedom: "Just one day after Turkey's president said his country must "meticulously" protect press freedom, its prime minister derided a prominent American author for refusing to visit Turkey over the country's treatment of the media. The conflicting messages are the latest example of disunity among Turkey's leadership about how to handle increasingly vociferous criticism - both domestic and international - of the country's deteriorating record on press freedom."
